For those who have been following the Euroleague all season, you know how crazy round 30 will be with just three spots remaining. So far, the the first through fifth seed are controlled by Fenerbache, CSKA Moscow, Real Madrid, Anadolou Efes and Barcelona. With Baskonia pretty much in, Panathinaikos, Zalgiris Kaunas, Milano, Olympiacos and Maccabi Tel Aviv are the ones fighting for the final two spots. Here are all of the head-to-head matchups followed by three possibilities for each team which also include how they get eliminated.
6th seed, Baskonia (15-14):
Final Game: @ CSKA Moscow
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with WIN
Qualifies with LOSS, Panathinaikos LOSS, and if either Milano or Olympiacos WIN
Eliminated with LOSS, Panathinaikos LOSS, and if Milano and Olympiacos both WIN which forces a 4-way tie: Milano, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Baskonia
Prediction: Baskonia owns a lot of tiebreakers so in most cases they will advance. In the end, I believe they will advance.
7th seed, Panathinaikos (15-14):
Final Game: Vs Buducnost
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with win
Qualifies with LOSS and Zalgiris WIN, while Maccabi and Olympiacos both LOSE
Eliminated with LOSS and if Zalgiris, Maccabi and either Olympiacos or Milan all WIN
Prediction: To be safe Pao must win, and I believe that will in fact be the case. Can Norris Cole and Budu win in Athens? Anything is possible, but it’s highly unlikely. Pao will make the playoffs.
8th seed, Zalgiris Kaunas (14-15):
Final Game: @ Real Madrid
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with WIN
Qualifies with LOSS and if Maccabi, Olympiacos and Milano all LOSE
Eliminated with LOSS while either Maccabi, Olympiacos or Milano WIN
Prediction: Zalgiris better hope that the teams behind it lose, because I don’t believe they can win in Madrid. The Lithuanians will be eliminated.
9th seed, Milano (14-15):
Final Game: @ Anadolou Efes
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with WIN and if Maccabi and Olympicaos both win, while Panathinaikos LOSES
Qualifies with win while Maccabi, Zalgiris, and Olympiacos all LOSS
Eliminated with LOSS
Prediction: I don’t see Milano in any way possible stealing one away in Istanbul from Efes. Milano will be on the couch come playoff time.
10th seed, Olympiacos (14-15):
Final Game: Vs. Darussafaka
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with WIN, while Milano and Zalgiris both LOSE
Qualifies with WIN, while Panathinaikos LOSES and one of Milano or Zalgiris WIN
Eliminated with LOSS
Prediction: Hold up! You’re telling me that a David Blatt team may not make the playoffs? Is that even possible? This year everything has gone against Olympiacos and a loss to the worst team in the Euroleague, Darussafaka has happened. That was in Istanbul though. Could the result be different in Athens? Blatt better hope so, or else his seat will be burning hot!
11th seed, Maccabi Tel Aviv (14-15):
Final Game: @Fenerbache
Three Possibilities:
Qualifies with WIN and if Panathinaikos, Milano, and Zalgiris all LOSE
Eliminated with WIN and if Milano and Zalgiris both WIN
Eliminated with LOSS
Prediction: Finally, here is the team known for Miracles. After a 1-8 start for the Yellows, to be a game out of the playoffs is incredible. Maccabi’s played well against Fenerbache this season despite an 0-3 record counting the preseason and the round 9 matchup in Tel Aviv. What are the odds that Maccabi steals a game in Istanbul and gets into the playoffs? Both odds are slim to none as Maccabi isn’t dependent on itself for another miracle. Is it possible that all teams tied with them lose? Yes, but very unlikely to happen. I think Maccabi will find a way to get in as it has 5 other ways to get in options.
